A few portions of broccoli consumed every day can prevent prostate cancer, thanks to a chemical substance that activates the genes that fight against the disease.
Broccoli contains a substance that can make some genetic changes, this way the activity of some genes responsible of some tumors can be stopped, according to Richard Mithen, biologist at the british institute of food research.
He did a research to see the connection between a diet rich in fruits and vegetables and the risk of having cancer.
The study was made on 24 man with cancer lesions, that hat a high risk of prostate cancer. The subjects were separated in two groups and ate, during a whole year,4 extra portions of beans and broccoli every week.
The scientists, took cell samples, the results showing that the men that ate broccoli suffered hundreds of gene modifications that had the role of fighting cancer.
