Mediterranean diet can prevent diabetes
Mediterranean diet, rich in fruits, vegetables, fibers and healthy fats, can offer protection against type 2 diabetes, according to a study made by the british scientists.
14000 Spanish volunteers took part to the study, different ages, witch offered information about the food habits and were divided into 3 groups, each on how they respected the mediterranean diet. The volunteers were monitored for 4 years.
The results indicated a 83% less risk of type 2 diabetes at persons that respected the diet the most in comparison with the group that respected the least this life style.
The mediterranean diet, used by the people that live in the Creta island, south of Italy and Greece,is rich in fish, fruits and vegetables, usually cooked with olive oil,to witch a glass of red wine is added. These persons also exercise often.
The scientist wanted to study the association between the mediterranean diet and diabetes after a theory that olive oil lowers blood tension. The diet does not contain animal fat, while the alcohol consume is moderate.
The average age of the participants was 40 years old-below the medium age at witch type 2 diabetes is met,so the specialists say that further testing is needed to see if the mediterranean diet really influences the disease.
Previous studies proved that mediterranean diet is good for improving the life of the persons that suffer of arthritis, preventing cardiac diseases, reducing death risk at patiences with Alzheimner, preventing asthma and allergies.
